An Effective Headache Treatment May Be All In Your Back

Chiropractic for Migraines

Are you tired of being the 1 out of every 6 Central Bucks residents suffering with headaches and migraines? Day after day of being miserable, irritable, the frustration of knowing that your friends and family don’t understand what you are going through.  Add that to the doctor’s visits, MRI’s and CT scans-which only come back with “normal” results.

Have you tried numerous headache treatments and migraine treatments only to have them return-or not leave at all?  And that’s not all…trying one medication after another, feeling like you’re on a merry-go-round of drugs.

Let’s do the math and let me ask you a question:

The average headache sufferer has 15 headaches a month and takes 1000mg of OTC medication for these headaches.  This average sufferer has had headaches for 7 years:

1000mg x 15 headaches/month=15,000mg of medication/month

15,000mg/month x 12 months= 180,000mg of medication/year

180,000mg/year x 7 years= 1,260,000mg of medication

1,260,000mg of medication= approximately 3 pounds of medication

So, let me ask you, “If 3 pounds of medication has not helped your headache, how many more will?”

You might be surprised to learn, it’s estimated that over 70% of all headache sufferers have an impairment in their cervical spine. Since there is often a spinal reason, it makes sense that a chiropractor could have the headache treatment you’ve been looking for.

Research has shown that spinal manipulation, like that given by chiropractors, may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.

A report released in 2001 by researchers at Duke University found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer lasting relief of tension type headaches than a commonly prescribed medication.

Also, a 1995 study in the Journal of Manipulative Physiological Therapeutics found that spinal manipulative therapy is an effective treatment for migraine headaches and that those who completed four weeks of chiropractic treatments experienced a sustained therapeutic benefit in contrast to those patients who received a commonly prescribed medication.

If you are taking any medication for your headaches, including amitriptyline, imitrex, ibuprofen or Advil…you are not correcting anything long-term.  In fact, you might actually be causing the continued pattern of your headaches.  Joel Sapper, M.D., of the Michigan Headache and Neurologic Institute, stated on ABC’s 20/20 that almost half of all headache sufferers are afflicted by “Medication Overuse Headaches.”

In other words, your best headache treatment may be from a chiropractic doctor like Dr. Jeff McQuaite.
